Another year, another blistering season of wildfires here in California. 2.2 million acres this year so far -- a record-breaking figure with another four months left in fire season. WeHero has been asked how to best support during this time, and sadly, we have experience in responding to previous California wildfires. Drawing upon the impact and aftermath of the Napa Fires of 2018, the Camp Fire in Paradise, and the Santa Barbara Fires, WeHero has developed a simple methodology for providing effective support for California wildfire relief...
Funding first, volunteering second.
Funding:Currently, monetary donations are able to make the greatest impact in supporting the response towards active fires. We recommend supporting the following organizations:
Both of these organizations should be featured in your company’s CSR platform. You can also support them directly on HeroTab, simply by donating your web browsing. With every tab opened you can raise money for these organizations and directly impact the fight against California wildfires. Download Now
Volunteering:In addition to monetary donations, fire prevention and recovery can be supported through high impact corporate volunteer programs. After fires have combed through an area, curated corporate volunteer events can aid in removing debris, rebuilding structures, supporting reforestation efforts, and disposing of underbrush to prevent future fires. Working in partnership with One Tree Planted, WeHero hosts corporate volunteer programs in support of the post-fire response. Our Reforestation event provides companies, teams, and individuals with the knowledge and supplies necessary to plant trees and rebuild areas that have been impacted by natural disasters, like these wildfires. Our events are packaged and sent to your homes, so despite being physically distant, you and your team members can join together in supporting a cause of such great importance. If your company is interested in taking part in these reforestation efforts, please connect with us here.
Education:A core component of all WeHero corporate volunteer events is education. We strongly believe that the greatest impact is made when we educate ourselves, and others, on the most effective and ethical pathway to change. If you’re curious as to why California has been suffering from such aggressive fires over the past years, we highly recommend watching the documentary, The State of California, created by our friends at One Tree Planted. One Tree Planted just released Episode 1 48 hours ago.
